You will compare and contrast two (2) like products in the media arts – 2 songs, 2 movies, 2 commercials, or 2 print ads. They must be related in some way so as to have a point of comparison, such as a Dove and an Axe commercial (both are gender targeted body products), Ironman movie and Hulk movie (both Marvel superhero movies), Sturgill Simpson’s song “Sea Stories" and Toby Keith’s “American Soldier” (both country songs about military men), and include an analysis appropriate to the type of media. Additional Requirements: Follow a standard essay format starting with an introduction paragraph, moving to 3-4 body paragraphs that are organized effectively in one of the two given structures to compare and contrast your subjects, and ending with a conclusion paragraph. You may include a brief summary/description of your subjects, but it can take up no more than one short paragraph after your introduction paragraph. Alternatively, you may choose to add only relevant summary/description within the body paragraphs as you discuss the main points. You must include at least three main points of comparison/contrast with specific details from the subjects that support each point. Supporting details must include sensory description that will help your reader visualize or imagine the subjects, and several direct references to, paraphrases of, and/or quotations from your subjects, which must be properly cited in MLA format. A works cited page must be included and list entries for your two subjects (no other sources required). When you turn in your topic and working thesis, you must include a link to your subjects if there are online videos available (YouTube, etc). If they are print materials, you must take a clear picture of each item and upload them. Always provide a URL if your sources are from the internet; title, issue, and volume number if from a magazine; and title, main performer(s), director, and distributor if on film (year if film has a reproduction). Your thesis must make a specific argument about the points of comparison and contrast you are making – it is not simply that the two can be compared and contrasted.
