DDPA 8393 Week 3 Description

This seminar will focus on the research process, and how to identify and define a research question(s) and framework(s) for your dissertation project. You will consider issues of relevance, feasibility, and/or ethics when answering these questions, and develop a plan for developing your topic into a research question. Individual meetings with faculty members in the doctoral program will provide you with opportunities to discuss and receive feedback on each step of the research process.

DDPA 8393 Week 3 Outline

This is the final DDPA 8393 course. It consists of three, 3-credit courses. A research proposal is required for this course. During Week 3 of the course, students will finalize their proposal for the dissertation project and complete an initial literature search that will include primary and secondary sources. Each student will also be expected to provide a brief written summary for each of their 20-25 sources.

The purpose of this seminar is to provide the student with an opportunity to: a. Identify a research question that is important for their dissertation proposal. b. Establish a framework for the dissertation, within which the questions and their resolutions can be answered; c. Examine how their findings relate to other existing literature on the subject area; and d. Develop strategies to collect, analyze and disseminate results.
