Psychological Aspects of Violent Crime (5 credits)

CRJS 6201 Course examines the psychological and social factors that contribute to violent crime. Topics include personality theory, aggression, victimology, mental illness and violence, and the impact of media on violence.

Students enrolled in CRJS 6201 must submit a journal of all activities performed during their Practicum. Journals are due via CRJS 6201 CourseWeb on the last day of each week. Pre-requisites for CRJS 6201 – Psychological Aspects of Violent Crime (5 credits) (CRJS 6201)

CRJS 6201 Course is a study of the psychological aspects of violent crime. It focuses on the role that mental illness and personality disorders play in the commission of violent crime. The CRJS 6201 Course also looks at how mental illness and personality disorders are treated in the criminal justice system.

CRJS 6201 Week 11 Duration

Week 11 of the CRJS 6201 Course will be dedicated to a review of the material that has been covered throughout the CRJS 6201 Course. This will include a review of the major psychological theories that have been discussed, as well as a review of the research that has been conducted on violent crime.

CRJS 6201 Week 11 Assessment & Grading

CRJS 6201 Course Description: CRJS 6201 Course explores the psychological and psychiatric causes of violent crime. The focus will be on identifying the psychological profiles of violent criminals, as well as understanding how mental disorders can lead to violent behavior. In addition, we will examine the impact of trauma on an individual’s propensity for violence, as well as how different types of therapy can be used to prevent or treat violent tendencies.

For CRJS 6201 Course, you will be assessed on your ability to complete the following tasks:

Project proposals will be submitted at the beginning of the semester, and final projects will be presented at the end of the semester.
